The Tax Policy Center estimated that about one in five Americans could end up with higher tax bills than before.
The Trump administration’s plan would slash taxes for those making between $150,000 and $300,000 a year, which is roughly the amount Americans earn for each paycheck.
The tax plan also would increase taxes for families with incomes of $75,000 or more.
According to the Center, about half of those families would end up paying more in taxes under the tax plan than under current law.
It would increase the federal deficit by $1.3 trillion over the next decade.
But many Americans would be left worse off, with their taxes projected to go up by more than $1,000, according to the Tax Policy Centre.
The center estimated that as a result, between 5 percent and 7 percent of Americans could qualify for Medicaid under the Trump administration.
Some states are already facing cuts in Medicaid funding, which could increase pressure on states to cut back on their Medicaid programs.
